Croatia awards remaining LTE licences

Croatian telecoms regulator HAKOM has awarded the remaining LTE licences in the country to operators VIPnet and T-Hrvatski Telekom.

The two operators received the remainders of the 800MHz mobile spectrum, which was awarded to the same companies in Croatia’s spectrum auction last year.

VIPnet and T-Hrvatski Telekom were initially awarded 2x10MHz in the digital dividend band – suitable for 4G/LTE services – and as the only bidders, were today granted the leftover blocks of 2x5MHz.

VIPnet offered HRK110.14 million for the first block and T-Hrvatski Telekom bid HRK105.65 million for the second.

VIPnet chose to pay HRK65 million in annual licence fees upfront, and T-Hrvatski Telekom agreed to pay annual fees in equal instalments until the licence expires.

Tele2 Croatia did not bid in any part of the auction because the spectrum was too expensive for its strategy, according to local reports.
