Laurence leaves for the position after six years as CEO of Vodafone UK, where he oversaw the acquisition of Cable & Wireless Worldwide and the launch of its UK 4G service.
Laurence has 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and will succeed existing CEO Nadir Mohamed, who is due to retire this year.
Alan Horn, chairman of the board at Rogers Communications, said: “The board unanimously chose Guy as the best leader to succeed Nadir and to take the company forward.”
Laurence’s role is effective as of December 2 2013.
