Reliance Jio Infocomm receives unified 4G licence

Reliance Jio Infocomm was awarded a unified 4G licence in India earlier this week, the country's Economic Times reports.

Sources close to the deal have claimed that the Mukesh Ambani-owned company received the licence on Monday.

Reliance Jio Infocomm began its 4G roll-out in India in July this year, and the unified licence means that the company is now able to offer all telecoms services under a single permit, as a fully-fledged mobile operator.

The Indian conglomerate submitted an estimated one-time entry fee of Rs 16.73 billion ($272.9 million) for the licence, but Bharti Airtel – which also owns 4G spectrum in the country – did not apply.

Reliance Jio Infocomm signed a network-sharing deal with Reliance Communications – owned by the second Ambani brother, Anil – earlier this year, in a bid to accelerate its 4G roll-out.
