Kazim appointed as du CFO

UAE operator du announced today that it has selected Amer Kazim to replace Mark Shuttleworth as CFO.

Kazim will take on the position in December this year, while Shuttleworth will stay on at du until the end of Q1 2014, to ensure a smooth transition.

Kazim leaves his position as SVP of group services at Dubai Airport for the role and holds 18 years of experience in the financial sector.

Ahmad Bin Byat, chairman at du, said: "We are happy to announce this new addition of one of our Emirati talents to our senior management team. This reinforces our national staff foundation in line with the UAE leadership strategy, which aims at rebooting Emiratisation through sustainable programmes and long-term corporate objectives."

Shuttleworth leaves his role, after eight years at the company, in order to pursue other business opportunities.

Osman Sultan, CEO at du, said: "Mark has been an exceptional member of the senior management team and a valued contributor to the execution of du's strategies, which were set by the company since its inception. His strong financial acumen has meant that he has been fundamental, not only to the continued successful delivery of shareholder value creation, but also to the growth story of du.”

In July this year, du and Etisalat admitted defeat on a deal which would have seen the two companies compete on UAE fixed-line services.
