Wilcon acquires Freedom Dark Fiber Networks

Data centre and infrastructure provider Wilcon has today completed its acquisition of Freedom Dark Fiber Networks.

Based in southern California, Wilcon’s fibre-optic network is now expected to deliver access to a further 1,000 enterprise buildings, wireless communications sites, data centres and internet hubs in the region.

The acquisition has increased Wilcon’s network by an additional 3,000 route miles, making it one of the largest in the region.

Jon DeLuca, CEO at Wilcon, said: “[The transaction] enables us to provide unparalleled fibre access to our customers. By bringing together the most dense fibre and interconnection infrastructure in downtown Los Angeles and vast network reach throughout southern California, we are poised to deliver unmatched efficiencies in ultra-broadband performance for businesses, wireless carriers and other communications services providers.”

Freedom Dark Fiber Networks has been renamed Freedom Telecommunications as a result of the transaction and, under Wilcon management, will offer services such as managed optical wavelengths and dark fibre Ethernet services.

Dave Daigle, founder of Freedom Dark Fiber Networks and SVP of corporate development at Wilcon, said: “With the close of this agreement, our combined organisation is able to offer highly compelling solutions for the dynamic California economy.”

The deal, first suggested in August this year, was backed by Pamlico Capital, which has worked with Wilcon on a number of other acquisitions.
