Rostelecom has started the deployment of network provider Infinera's DTN-X platform in a bid to extend the Russian operator's IP/MPLS network reach. Infinera's platform is based on 500Gbps technology and is designed to allow Rostelecom to offer 10, 40 and 100GbE services to its customers. [read more]  

 

Portuguese operator Oni expects to reach an agreement to offer services as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) by the year end. Alexandre Filipe da Fonseca, CEO at Oni, said in a statement that the MVNO is expected to support the roll-out of a fixed-mobile convergence offer. [read more]

 

Tata Communications has announced the extension of its low latency network in Asia through direct connections with the national stock exchanges of India (NSE), Singapore (SGX) and Hong Kong (HKEx). It extends the company's financial trading connectivity network and aims to support mission critical, real time trading applications to connect exchanges with financial capitals in Asia, the UK and the US. Bangladeshi mobile operator Grameenphone has commercially launched its 3G service in the Baridhara and Bashundhara residential areas of the country. The Telenor-owned subsidiary won 10MHz of spectrum in the 3G auction in September this year, and rivals Airtel, Banglalink and Robi secured spectrum in the 5MHz band. [read more]

 

Telecom NZ will launch its 4G service in New Zealand this November, according to local reports. Telecom NZ's 4G service will be initially available in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on November 12, and stands to rival Vodafone New Zealand's 4G service launched earlier this year. UK operator EE is to provide BT with mobile services, replacing the British incumbent's nine-year partner Vodafone. BT said in a statement: "BT and EE have signed an agreement to proceed, on an exclusive basis, to a contract for EE to provide mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services to BT's customers and employees." Virgin Mobile Australia and CSG Systems International have partnered to enable the mobile operator access to its CSG Singleview service. CSG, which has a partnership with Virgin Mobile Australia spanning 12 years, will utilise its Singleview platform to allow Virgin Mobile customers the ability to view and manage account balances accurately. French satellite operator Eutelsat Communications has transferred its operations on disputed frequencies at 28.5°E to Luxembourg's SES, following a tribunal decision, according to local reports. Under the rules of the International Chamber of Paris, the first phase of arbitration began in September, alongside an injunction giving SES the rights to the frequencies.[read more]
