Sea Fibre Networks and HGC extend METRO2C alliance to Asia

Sea Fibre Networks – owner of the CeltixConnect network – and Hong Kong-based Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) have announced an expansion of the METRO2C Alliance, extending the network from Europe to Asia.

HGC has integrated its four cross-border routes with mainland China’s tier-1 telecoms operators, and the collaboration provides US and European multinationals and organisations with extensive access to the digital markets of Asia-Pacific through a single source.

The METRO2C Alliance is attempting to create a data highway for the rising number of European enterprises seeking to access applications and data from Asia, while supplying data and application-intensive services.

HGC is also expanding its services portfolio to the internet hub of Dublin through the collaboration, while further commencing the delivery of layer-2 Ethernet services at various transit speeds of multiple 10Gbps wavelengths.

“We are delighted to join the METRO2C Alliance and expand our footprint to Ireland, where many US high-growth technology companies have set up European headquarters,” Andrew Kwok, president of international and carrier business at HGC, said today (October 3).

“Whether an Asian company is looking to grow its business in Europe, or a US or European business is wanting to expand into Asia-Pacific, as a member of the METRO2C Alliance, HGC now provides the critical underlying infrastructure to make this possible,” Kwok added.

Asia has approximately 1.1 billion internet users, and the region is home to almost half of the world’s mobile subscribers, meaning there is a huge strain on the region’s bandwidth capacities.

“This collaboration creates a digital artery into the Asia-Pacific region for US and European organisations, providing access to some of the world’s most innovative nations,” added Diane Hodnett, CEO at METRO2C.
