Zamir Telecom increases African presence

UK-based Zamir Telecom is to expand its wholesale VoIP network into Africa, following increased demand from its customers in the region.

The company has signed its first agreement for the expansion with Nigerian interconnect exchange carrier Exchange Telecom, and has opened an office in Nairobi, Kenya.

The partnership with Exchange is designed to allow Zamir customers to generate VoIP calls between London, UK and Lagos, Nigeria.

This is facilitated through Exchange Telecom’s licence to carry voice and data traffic to the four largest operators in Nigeria.

As VoIP termination is not yet available in Nigeria, Exchange will reportedly create a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) conversion.

“Our existing customers and prospects are all experiencing increasing VoIP traffic to Africa and have been asking us to expand our service,” said M Naufal Zamir, MD and founder of Zamir Telecom.

“The deal is the start of our expansion into Africa. We are a dynamic, fast-growing and ambitious company, always looking for gaps in the market. Most importantly, we are constantly finding innovative ways to provide services which carriers, service providers and the end-consumer need.”

Zamir Telecom has said it is now actively seeking other partnerships in the region. The news follows reports in September this year that the company was to begin using its VoIP optimisation equipment to improve the service on its London to Dhaka route.
