Satellite provider Inmarsat has struck a deal which will see New Zealand-based IT and communications company Telecom NZ manage its Pacific Ocean Region (POR) satellite access stations for the Global Xpress (GX) system. [read more]

Australia's Telstra has partnered with French vendor Alcatel-Lucent to trial fibre-to-the-node technology (FTTN). Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and South Korea's SK Telecom have announced the successful testing of Liquid Applications over LTE. The trial was designed to examine Liquid Applications as a unique, personalised mobile broadband experience, following a deal signed by the two companies at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. Virgin Media Business (VMB) has been selected by Vue Entertainment to connect its 82 cinemas across the UK via VMB's fibre-optic network. The WAN is designed to allow Vue to monitor the screens from a central location, as well as put on more showings to reduce customer disappointment. A launch is set for early 2014.
