CWC to launch LTE in Cayman Islands

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC), acting under its LIME brand, is to launch a 4G LTE network in the Cayman Islands.

The network will reportedly be the first in the region, and is part of CWC’s company-wide strategy to deliver enhanced mobile data services across its pan-American businesses.

“Just over two years after launching 4G mobile services across all three of the Cayman Islands, LIME has acquired an LTE licence and additional frequencies, which will enable us to provide super-fast mobile data services on the next generation of technology,” said Martin Roos, acting CEO at LIME.

“This is a huge investment in not only our network capability, which will bring great benefits to our customers, but also in Cayman.”

CWC was awarded two blocks of spectrum in the 700MHz spectrum band and the network will be built on existing mobile cell sites.

LTE services are expected to launch in the 2013/2014 financial year on Grand Cayman, and equipment vendor Ericsson will be supporting the roll-out.

“This shows our confidence in the Cayman market and our commitment to building a world class infrastructure,” Roos added.

In April this year, LIME launched its payTV service in the Cayman Islands.
