NSN on course to win Vodafone India network upgrade contract

Vodafone India is likely to award an estimated $200 million contract to Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), India’s Economic Times reports.

The contract would see NSN upgrade 19 of the Indian unit’s 2G networks and six of its 3G networks across the country, local sources claim.

Vodafone India – the country’s second-largest mobile phone operator – hopes a successful deal will enable it to address an expected surge in data traffic.

An anonymous analyst told local reporters that as Vodafone India had no 4G airwaves, "it made sense for it to spruce up its 2G and 3G data networks, to brace up to the challenge from Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio Infocomm”.

Reliance Jio Infocomm started rolling out its 4G LTE network in the country in July this year.
