Belgian Government to reduce stake in Belgacom

The Belgian Government could be set to reduce its stake in Belgacom to just over 50%, from the 53.1% it presently owns.

According to national news reports, the stake sale would yield approximately €215 million for the state, which will then be put towards reducing sovereign debt.

There were claims that the government was interested in giving up its majority ownership of Belgacom following a proposal from Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.

The latest reports, which cite government sources, suggest Belgium will retain 50% of the company plus one share.
