Mobily selects Huawei for 400G IP network

Saudi Arabia’s Mobily has partnered with Chinese vendor Huawei for the deployment and activation of a commercial 400Gbps IP core network in the country.

The network, claimed to be an industry first, is designed to deliver highly diverse and more efficient services – such as video, teleconferencing, M2M and cloud computing – to Mobily’s LTE, UMTS and FTTH users.

“We aim to bring leading-edge technology and infrastructure offerings to our customers,” said Nasser Al Nasser, COO at Mobily.

“The 400G IP core provides excellent performance and scalability, and will allow Mobily to continue to develop its services over the coming years.”

Huwei’s technology is expected to support the rapid increase in data traffic in Saudi Arabia, and uses the vendor’s NE500E core router which delivers substantial capacity through flexible networking of 100G, 40G and 10G ports.

“Rapid development of mobile broadband and video services will generate tremendous traffic growth for backbone networks,” said Zha Jun, president of fixed network business at Huawei.

“Now is the time to apply 400G technology. Huawei...fully understands carriers’ network reconstruction requirements...and will systematically improve network performance, expand bandwidth capacity, and eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks to help carriers build future-ready backbone networks.”

Huawei also partnered with ITC in Saudi Arabia in July this year to expand capacity on its IP core network.
