TIM Brasil completes North Brazil fibre-optic deployment

TIM Brasil has completed the installation of its fibre-optic network between Tucurui, Para, and Manaus, Amazonas in northern Brazil.

More than 1,400km of fibre-optic cable has been deployed and when commercially operational, it will cover the state of Para, Amazonas and Amapa.

The project is designed to increase data transmission capacity in the north, which is still served by satellite, by 100 times.

This stage of the investment is worth BRL 200 million (roughly $82 million) and first test transmissions are set to begin in September.

The deployment follows a pledge from TIM Brasil in April this year to invest more heavily in network improvements across the country.
