BT and Virgin Media strike three year wholesale deal

BT and Virgin Media have entered into a three year wholesale deal in the UK to give the cable operator’s subscribers access to the BT Sport channel.

The deal, which is expected to boost both groups in the cable TV battle in the UK, will give Virgin customers the channel for free under its most expensive package.

For BT, the partnership gives it more viewers to its new channels with the view of driving up advertising prices.

BT has claimed it has signed over a million customers to its new channel, and the move is part of a strategy to protect its core business by offering the channel free to broadband customers.
