ECI Telecom upgrades German Research Network to 100G

Israel’s ECI Telecom has upgraded the German Research Network, Deutsches Forschungsnetz (DFN-Verein) network, to enable it to deliver 100G services.

The DFN-Verein network is a not-for-profit organisation for science and research in Germany, connecting more than 750 universities and research institutes on its X-WiN network.

ECI’s 100G service is designed to facilitate faster connectivity and increased capacity on the X-WiN, as well as boosting its existing services which include VoIP and video conferencing.

The upgrade does not involve changes in the network – plug-in 100G cards are installed for connection between routers – meaning there is no disruption to the service.

Russia’s MTS selected ECI’s 100Gbps solution in January this year.
