SES signs capacity agreement with GSAT

Satellite provider SES has signed an agreement with the Philippine direct-to-home (DTH) satellite company Global Satellite (GSAT) to provide additional capacity to the company.

The multi-year deal will see a transfer of capacity usage by GSAT from the NSS-11 satellite to SES-9, which is set to launch in 2015.

SES-9 will be the company’s largest satellite dedicated to the Asia-Pacific region, and will provide an expansion of capacity for DTH, enterprise, mobility and government services across the region.

GSAT operates as the satellite division for the First United Broadcasting Corp (FUBC) and launched its DTH service in 2009 on the NSS-11 Ku-band satellite, According to SES, with the additional capacity agreement, GSAT will offer a further 12 HD channels and 47 standard definition channels to over 200,000 subscribers in the Philippine archipelago.

“Our ability to offer highly reliable DTH satellite TV to our growing base of subscribers in the Philippines is largely due to the comprehensive footprints of NSS-11, and, from 2015, SES-9. We are confident that SES’ expertise will enable us to grow in our market and increase both the quality and quantity of channels in our pay-TV offerings," said Phillip Chien, president and CEO at FUBC.
