Fibrenoire certified by MEF

The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) has awarded CE 2.0 certification to Fibrenoire, marking the first Canadian telecoms provider to become compliant with the standard.

The company, which offers fibre optic connectivity to businesses in Quebec and Ontario, joins eight other carriers that have reached the industry’s highest Carrier Ethernet standard, including TW Telecom and Telecom Italia.

Jean-François Lévesque, CTO of Fibrenoire, said: "We believe that standardisation of Carrier Ethernet services will accelerate demand both at the retail and wholesale level as more customers will be looking into certified Carrier Ethernet networks in the future.”

Nan Chen, president of the MEF added: “Carrier Ethernet has become the industry's biggest success story of the past decade. A milestone was reached this year when for the first time Carrier Ethernet services share of bandwidth exceeded the sum total of all legacy telecoms services across the world, making it the dominant technology in the carrier space.”

The MEF is a consortium of 200 organisations which aims to encourage and spread the worldwide adoption of a carrier-class Ethernet networks and services.

Ethernet technology recently celebrated its 40th birthday.
