TeliaSonera and PLDT sign global IP transit service agreement

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has signed a global IP transit service agreement with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), which will enable PLDT to extend its reach throughout North America, Asia and Europe.

The agreement will support the delivery of PLDT’s services across the world, and is said to offer reach to previously untapped markets.

“The partnership has resulted in the highest quality experience for our customers and a cost-effective network solution, allowing us to maintain PLDT’s mission of attractive pricing, service quality, content and coverage,” said Genaro Sanchez, VP of networks at PLDT.

As well as its footprint in North America, Asia and Europe, Erik Hallberg, president of TSIC, also attributed the agreement to the company’s “strong presence within the high-growth, emerging Asian telecommunications market”.

“A robust economy and widespread infrastructure development have spurred a rise amongst the international telco community and caught the eyes of foreign investors. The region now serves as a growing destination for outsourced global business,” he added.
