Three operators allocated 4G spectrum in Singapore

Three operators have been allocated 4G spectrum in Singapore.

SingTel, StarHub and M1 will obtain a total of 270MHz in the 1800Mhz and 2.5GHz bands, which were made available for allocation in the country’s 4G auction.

The three operators submitted initial offers for spectrum at the reserve price set by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), and the amount of spectrum available did not exceed the amount available in either band.

According to reports, M1 obtained 80MHz for a total price of SGD 104 million, while StarHub acquired 90MHz of spectrum for SGD 136 million. Starhub spent SGD 120 million, and the next stage of the 4G auction will determine the spectrum parts acquired by the bidding companies.

Spectrum rights will commence on 1 July 2015 in the 2.5GHz band in April 2017 for the 1800MHz band, when existing spectrum rights expire.

The IDA expects operators to provide nationwide street level coverage for 4G by June 2016 in the country.
