Claro Chile launches LTE network

Claro Chile has partnered with Nokia Siemens Networks for the launch of what is claimed to be the country’s first LTE network.

The network is designed to deliver ultra-fast mobile broadband to the Chilean operator’s subscribers, as well as a range of advanced internet services.

“Our customers can now look forward to super-fast mobile broadband that will offer them significantly superior service experience,” said Gerardo Muñoz, CEO at Claro Chile.

Under terms of the agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks provided an LTE radio access network including 10 base stations.

The company’s Evolved Packet Core (EPC) was also deployed to help Claro Chile manage the growth in data traffic on its network.

““We are proud to be associated with this important project that marks the debut of commercial 4G services in Chile – a landmark accomplishment in one of the most advanced communications markets in Latin America,” said Raúl Romero, head of customer business team, América Móvil, at Nokia Siemens Networks.

Nokia Siemens Network is seemingly placing a heavier focus on connectivity in Latin America, as the launch follows a similar partnership with TIM Brasil earlier this year.
