Equinix opens Switzerland data centre

Global data centre provider Equinix has today launched phase one of its fifth data centre in Zürich, Switzerland.

The ZH5 International Business Exchange (IBX) is connected to the company’s ZH1, ZH2 and ZH4 data centres as part of the Equinix Zürich data centre campus.

It is expected to provide customers with direct connectivity to 90 network service providers, as well as the Swiss stock exchange.

“This expansion in Switzerland underlines Equinix’s leadership in the market and our continued commitment to provide state-of-the art IBX data centres in strategic geographic locations to help our customers grow,” said Marco Dottarelli, managing director of Equinix Switzerland.

The data centre is designed for cloud, enterprise, content and financial services businesses, which will also benefit from access to the Equinix Marketplace, a 4,000-strong interface designed to allow customers and partners to identify one another.

“Customers will have immediate access to leading levels of network density and ecosystems, which will enable them to reduce costs, benefit from enhanced performance and add value to their business,” Dottarelli said.

Equinix claim to have built the data centre sustainably and the infrastructure has been certified GOLD by LEED standards.

Located 10km from Zürich city centre, and in close proximity to Zürich airport, the ZH5 IBX data centre is expected to cover approximately 6,670sqm when completed.

The launch builds on Equinix’s reputation as a global provider, following the company’s announcement of plans to open a data centre in Singapore earlier this year.
