Vodafone's Spanish subsidiary will become the first network in the country to launch 4G mobile internet services. The company launched the services in Spain's seven biggest cities on Wednesday, beating off rivals Orange and Yoigo. [read more]




 

Telefonica has signed a deal with Megafon which will see the Russian operator join Telefonica's Partners Programme. The Partners Programme is designed to enable telecommunications operators worldwide to work together and benefit from Telefonica's global scale and expertise. [read more]




 

Tricom has selected Chinese vendor Huawei for its network upgrade in the Dominican Republic. Tricom's existing CDMA network is expected to be upgraded to LTE using Huawei's SingleRAN CDMA/LTE system, a software defined radio (SDR) technology designed to quickly deploy an LTE network, as well as protect CDMA investment. Orange Switzerland has introduced its 4G network in the country ahead of schedule. The 4G network is initially expected to cover 35% of the population with a maximum speed of 100Mbps, and will reportedly come at no extra cost to its existing customers. [read more]




 

EE, the only present provider of 4G services in the UK, has announced the roll-out of the service to an additional 12 towns across the country. Aylesbury, Berkhamsted, Billericay, Blackpool, Brentwood, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Lytham St Annes, Marlow, Pontefract, Thame and Windsor are all expected to have access to the superfast mobile network by the end of today. South African telco Neotel is expected to roll out its LTE network in September this year, following a successful trial. The company reportedly trialled the network at its campus in Midrand, Gauteng, and achieved speeds of 70Mbps. [read more]




 

CenturyLink subsidiary Savvis has increased its presence in Asia through the completion of its Singapore data centre expansion, and has further development plans underway. The company said its Hong Kong data centre is set to complete in November this year and is paired with the opening of a data centre in London earlier this year. [read more]

Media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corp is stepping up its plans to launch as the Philippines' third operator after striking a network agreement with Globe Telecom. The company will launch ABS-CBN branded mobile SIM cards to provide both telecoms and content services to customers. [read more]
