Kcell appoints new CEO

Kazakhstani mobile operator Kcell has appointed Ali Agan as CEO of the company.

He succeeds Veysel Aral, who was appointed president of BA Eurasia in the TeliaSonera Group in February this year, and his role will be effective as of June 1 2013.

Agan leaves his position as CEO of TeliaSonera’s Uzbekistan subsidiary, Ucell, which he has held since September 2012, and hopes to maintain Kcell’s strategy for growth.

“Kcell has a solid strategy and I will continue this strategy, which is maintaining market leadership, growing even further in mobile data, and increasing profitability for the shareholders," Agan told reporters.

Agan has over 20 years of international experience in the financial and telecommunications sector, having held previous C-level roles at Azerbaijani mobile operator, Azercell, and MEP Iletisim & Erk Group of Companies.

"We are delighted that Ali will be taking the role of chief executive of Kcell," said Jan Erik Rudberg, Kcell chairman.

"He brings strong international experience from both within and beyond the telecoms sector and I look forward to working alongside him."

In December last year, Kcell reported that it had raised $525 million in an IPO designed to sell its parent TeliaSonera’s shares.
