Viettel targets overseas expansion

Vietnamese operator Viettel is reportedly planning to raise revenues from its overseas operations to approximately $1.2 billion (VND25 trillion) this year.

The company recorded revenues of approximately $717 million (VND15 trillion) from its overseas operations last year and is looking to significantly grow that figure in 2013.

With operations in Cambodia, Laos, Haiti and Mozambique, Viettel made a move to enter the Myanmar market earlier this year, after it became one of 12 successful applicants to be shortlisted for two mobile operator licences. The winning bids will be announced by June 3.

The company is also said to be targeting markets in Kenya, Venezuela, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Swaziland, Cuba and Argentina.
