du selects Alcatel-Lucent for second phase of high speed network

Middle East operator du has today announced it has selected Alcatel-Lucent to build the second phase of its 100G optical network throughout UAE.

du selected the French vendor in an effort to dramatically boost speed and capacity of its existing network and address increased data traffic generated by smartphones and tablets.

Alcatel-Lucent will apply its 400G chip to support capacity of up to 8.8Tbps over a single optical fibre which is said to extend signals’ reach over a longer period.

“The demand for data services is growing by the second and we selected Alcatel-Lucent’s solution to boost the capabilities of our network in order to accommodate future needs,” said Saleem AlBalooshi, EVP for customer operations.

“We are confident that Alcatel-Lucent’s global knowledge will contribute to delivering the best experience as a result of this project.”

Alcatel-Lucent has also recently carried out successful 400Gbps tests in Canada and France.
