Nepal Telecom to extend WiMAX services

Nepal Telecom (NT) is set to roll out WiMAX services to all customers from this month, according to a statement.

The company has said it will embark on a customer-wide rollout from March 27 this month, after initially launching the service in November last year.

WiMAX services were made available to corporate consumers in 49 districts, and the launch this week is expected to offer enhanced service, coverage and quality to all 75 districts within two months.

“We will deliver high quality data and internet services and utilise the technology to encourage social and economic growth,” the company said.

The service will reportedly be provided to the public from its counters in the towns of Sundhara and Jawalakhel in the Patan district of Nepal.

NT is also said to have partnered with AirMax Technology and Unitech Network for the service, in a deal which will see the two companies sell consumer premise equipment (CPE) to customers.

The launch of the WiMAX service follows a disappointment for Nepal Telecom in September last year as the company was forced to delay its GSM deployment.
