Wataniya Telecom partners with Ericsson for network upgrade

Wataniya Telecom has selected Ericsson to upgrade its radio access network.

The partnership is expected to allow higher network speeds for the Kuwaiti operator and respond to the growing demand for 3G services in the country.

“We have been a driving force in mobile penetration growth in Kuwait and are always looking for innovative ways to enhance our subscribers' experience,” said Bassam Hannoun, CEO, Wataniya Telecom.

Under the terms of the contract, the largest the European vendor has signed to date in Kuwait, Ericsson will upgrade Wataniya’s existing 2G and 3G networks, as well as adding WCDMA/HSPA capability on 900MHz and LTE capability on the 1800MHz band.

“By transforming the network with Ericsson’s latest technology and innovation, Wataniya is demonstrating how simple it is for operators to upgrade their existing infrastructure effectively, while continuing to deliver the best customer experience,” said Anders Lindblad, president of the Middle East region at Ericsson.

“This latest cooperation strengthens our partnership with Wataniya Telecom and enables us to work together towards the development of a network society in Kuwait.”

Wataniya Telecom recently partnered with CSG Internationalfor its wholesale billing management solutions.
