CyrusOne partners with Infinera to deploy cloud services in Texas

Infinera has today announced a partnership with data centre provider, CyrusOne, to deploy high-speed cloud-based services on its Internet Exchange (IX) in Texas.

The Texas-based IX is reportedly the first nationwide IX in the US and is powered by the Infinera DTN, which is based on 100Gbps photonic integrated circuits (PICs).

It is designed to provide services between CyrusOne’s major facilities and third-party carrier hotels in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, as well as customer data centre locations.

“The deployment of Infinera’s Digital Optical Network provides us with a robust platform for high-speed cloud-based services that will ensure service flexibility, minimise bandwidth costs, simplify network operations and consolidate network architecture,” said Josh Snowhorn, vice president and general manager of interconnection at CyrusOne.

“Infinera is one of the most respected optical telecommunications suppliers in the world; to provide this level of technology and support demonstrates our level of dedication to the CyrusOne Texas IX platform.”

The optical network supporting CyrusOne’s IX network is based on Infinera’s DTN platform, which is designed to allow CyrusOne to stipulate bandwidth circuits efficiently on its schedule and respond quickly to the needs of the network.

“Data centres are an important part of the IT structure for large enterprises, and Infinera is excited to partner with CyrusOne on their Internet Exchange,” said Scott Chandler, vice president of North America sales at Infinera.

“With Infinera’s Digital Optical Network solution, CyrusOne benefits from the simplicity of operating a high-speed optical network, designed to meet the needs of cloud-based services."

The CyrusOne Texas IX is estimated to launch at the end of March 2013.

Web hosting company OVH signed a similar deal with Infinera in January this year to utilise the company’s DTN-X in its network capacity expansion.
