Telstra Global to connect UK university to Asia

The University of Nottingham has signed an agreement with Telstra Global to provide a fully managed multi protocol label switching (MPLS) network to connect its campuses in the UK and Asia.

The three-year partnership is expected to result in a robust and reliable communications network between its main centre in Nottingham and international campuses in Malaysia and China.

“The university anticipates improvements in connection speed, doubling the previous international subscribed bandwidth to our Asian campuses,” said Caroline Gregory, head of IT support at the University of Nottingham.

“This service is expected to offer significant benefits and value in supporting the continued growth of communication and collaboration between the University's Asian campuses.”

The network will be heavily used for video conferencing between the campuses.

“We are very pleased about this partnership, in which Telstra Global can help the Nottingham University build stronger links with their Asian campuses,” said Tom Homer, CEO at Telstra Global.

“It is great to see such a well-respected institution harness our technology to improve the way education is being delivered.”
