AT&T and Axeda announce M2M management system

AT&T has partnered with cloud-based service and software provider, Axeda, to present an innovative way for businesses to manage and monitor their M2M connections across the globe.

The partnership has designed a central reporting wireless console which is expected to create a highly secure communication from wireless devices to the Axeda Machine Cloud.

“Making M2M connectivity easy to manage and monitor in near real-time for our customers is key,” said Chris Hill, SVP of advanced solutions at AT&T. “Our collaboration with Axeda is a great example of our connected vision at work in the field.”

SAIC, a Fortune500 scientific, engineering and technology applications company, is utilising the solution, meaning its assets can be managed from its US facilities via a cloud service, which integrates AT&T’s mobile network and global roaming.

“We are able to authenticate, locate and track our assets as they move through potentially dangerous areas,” said George Walther Meade, client services director at SAIC. “We have the ability to detect and control asset activity across broad geographies.”

At MWC 2013, AT&T has made a range of announcements in the mobile segment, and today said its Wifi network doubled to over 2.7 billion connections in 2012 in comparison to 2011. Its Wifi footprint is also reported to have grown by 10% in the last year.

AT&T is also further driving towards increasing its M2M solutions in 2013 following its recent integration with BMW.
