Telstra selects Ericsson for 100G upgrade on Australian network

Telstra has selected Ericsson’s 100Gbps next-generation optical network equipment for its long-haul, regional and metro networks across Australia.

The deployment is aimed at meeting demand for video, broadband and cloud -based services.

"This technology evolution adds to our existing network foundation and allows for an efficient evolution through significantly increasing capacity, reducing latency and streamlining our operations," said Mike Wright, executive director for networks and access technology at Telstra.

Ericsson’s optical network solution includes 100Gbps transmission, reconfigurable optical add drop multiplexer and DWDM technology.

The vendor claims its solution reduces cost of ownership by reducing the number of network elements and equipment space.

"Ericsson is pleased to continue with Telstra to build one of the largest, fastest and most robust optical networks in the world. With exponential growth in traffic driven by video, broadband and cloud, this upgrade will allow Telstra's customers to enjoy a superior user experience," said Håkan Eriksson, head of Ericsson Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
