AT&T enters network agreement with BMW

AT&T has entered a multimillion dollar communications network agreement with BMW covering the US, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Panama and Argentina.

The US carrier will provide BMW with a regional wide area network (WAN) using the latest MPLS and WAN acceleration services to support BMW’s core functions and applications.

AT&T claims the integrated VPN will help BMW improved and simplify its business and develop a roadmap to converge voice, data, video and cloud-based services.

The deal covers 41 BMW locations in the Americas including its American manufacturing hub in Spartanburg, South Carolina, as well as BMW’s Munich global headquarters.

"A flexible, reliable, integrated communications network is essential to providing the consistency and efficiency that's characteristic of a global industry leader like BMW," said Joachim Kathmann, VP AT&T Germany and Central Europe.

"The AT&T network is designed especially to address these requirements, enabling multiple locations to communicate with each other, across geographies, with the control and feel of a local connection. AT&T enjoys a longstanding relationship with BMW and we are delighted to be taking this step towards strengthening it further."

BMW previously selected AT&T for its ConnectedDrive safety service and entered an M2M agreement with the carrier in November 2012.
