Interxion to build second data centre in Stockholm

European data centre provider, Interxion, has today announced the construction of a second data centre in Stockholm, Sweden.

The company has said it will also be expanding its existing data centres in Frankfurt and Copenhagen as part of its expansion strategy to meet customer demand across its pan-European footprint.

The first 500 square metre phase of the Stockholm data centre (STO 2) is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2013.

“We have expanded our Stockholm data centre twice in the past 18 months and continue to see strong demand in Stockholm,” said David Ruberg, CEO at Interxion.

“STO 2 will provide critical equipped space to meet our customers' expansion requirements.”

The 600 square metre Frankfurt data centre (FRA 6.3) expansion is scheduled to be operational in the first quarter of 2013, whilst the 300 square metre expansion in the Copenhagen data centre (CPH 1) is also due for completion in the second quarter of 2013.

Ruberg said that demands for the Frankfurt data centre remain strong: “Fill rates for Frankfurt have met our expectations and FRA 6.3 will provide additional equipped space to meet the demands we see in the marketplace.”

The increased interest in Interxion’s data centres is evident in its recent connectivity agreement with AWS Direct Connect in December last year.
