DoCoMo Pacific chooses Nokia Siemens for 4G LTE in Guam

Nokia Siemens Networks has been appointed by DoCoMo Pacific, subsidiary of Japanese telecommunications operator NTT DoCoMo, as its sole supplier for 4G LTE in Guam.

Nokia has reportedly already implemented DoCoMo’s GSM/EDGE network, 3G network, and the HSPA+ network in the region.

“The HSPA+ and LTE complementary technologies assure faster mobile broadband speed throughout Guam even as the subscribers move in and out of LTE coverage,” said Jay Shedd, president and CEO at DoCoMo Pacific.

As part of the contract, NSN also upgraded its network management system to facilitate the optimisation of DoCoMo Pacific’s network across all radio technologies.

“Launching LTE for DoCoMo Pacific subscribers was of critical importance in the Guam market,” said J.P. Takala, head of Japan region at Nokia Siemens Networks.

“The implementation helped DoCoMo Pacific to transform access to mobile broadband with LTE technology.”

SK Telecom deployed its 100G network through Nokia Siemens Networks in January this year.
