Azerbaijan launches first telecoms satellite

Azerbaijan’s first telecoms satellite has entered into orbit, following its successful launch from French Guiana.

Azerspace-1 was manufactured by US-based Orbital Sciences Corporation as part of a $205 million contract with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies.

The country’s first national telecoms satellite is designed to bring broadband internet, data, voice and broadcasting services to Central Asia, Europe and Africa during its 15-year mission life.
