Pelephone restores services following network outage

Israeli carrier Pelephone has restored services to millions of customers following a four-hour network outage.

Pelephone, which is owned by Bezeq Israel Telecom, suffered a severe outage after subscribers were prevented from making or receiving calls on Sunday.

According to Israeli media, millions of customers were affected, and the company has not ruled out media speculation that a cyber attack had brought down the network.

Ericsson and HP assisted the mobile phone unit in restoring services by locating and neutralising a malfunctioning component.

Bezeq’s mobile unit has been suffering from intense competition with six operators now competing for market share, and this has sparked a price war in the market.

Israel has also seen an influx of competition in the landline phone market.
