Telstra completes migration of copper to fibre on South Brisbane Exchange

Australian incumbent Telstra has confirmed that it has completed its project to migrate all existing copper services in the South Brisbane Exchange area to fibre.

The operator said it is now on track to give the Queensland government control of its exchange site in June 2013.

Telstra said it had laid 284km of cable for the project, and upgraded the cable to 1661 pits.

Telstra claimed the new infrastructure represents “the largest scale optical distribution network it has designed and built”.

The company now provides fibre access to more than 13,000 homes and businesses in South Brisbane.
