Cisco to acquire BroadHop

Cisco has entered into an agreement to acquire BroadHop, a next-generation policy control and service management technology provider.

The Colorado-based company attracted Cisco with its policy control solutions for mobile and fixed networks and will be integrated into Cisco’s Service Provider Mobility Group, reporting to Shailesh Shukla, VP and general manager of software and applications at Cisco.

Cisco said that with global IP traffic projected to increase threefold over the next five years, policy control and service creation has never been more vital for mobile and fixed service providers.

BroadHop technology enables service providers to offer premium customised service packages, which can be monetised and add value to their business.

BroadHop was previously a service provider Wifi partner for Cisco and the vendor said that the acquisition is a natural extension of this partnership as it continues to engage global service providers with combined offerings.
