Bharti Airtel launches Mumbai data centre

Bharti Airtel has expanded its data centre portfolio with the launch of a carrier neutral facility in Mumbai, India.

The site was jointly designed and commissioned with Indian data centre provider Netmagic Solutions and it is connected to Bharti’s bandwidth capacity and network support infrastructure.

It is Bharti’s eighth Tier 3+ data centre in the country and is part of the company’s growing focus on hosting and managed services.

"Mumbai is the commercial capital of India and is also one of the world’s top centres of commerce; as a result it offers humungous opportunity to provide IT managed and cloud services to enterprise customers,” said Drew Kelton, president of Airtel Business.

“With the launch of this facility, Airtel takes another step in moving beyond its core connectivity services and into collocation, managed and hosting services and bringing these services closer to our clients in Mumbai. It supports our drive to be the preferred IT&T provider delivering end to end solutions to our customers.”

Bharti said that the data centre will expand enterprise arm Airtel Business’ co-location, managed hosting, disaster recovery, remote infrastructure management, application and cloud computing service capabilities in the city.

The company also claims that the facility is one of the most energy efficient in India, designed to achieve 1.7 to 1.75 power usage effectiveness.

Bharti operates seven other Level 3 and over data centres in NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Bhubneshwar and Pune.
