Verizon launches cloud communications system for SMEs

US carrier Verizon has claimed to eliminate SMEs’ need for an on-site PBX with its latest cloud communications system.

The Virtual Communications Express web portal combines Verizon’s VoIP with Broadsoft’s cloud infrastructure and is designed to help SMEs employ advanced collaboration tools and enhance customer service.

It also aims to offer SMEs similar capabilities to large enterprises cost effectively even with a lack of in-house IT expertise.

"We've built a cloud-based solution that is cost-effective and easy for employees to adopt and use for working smarter in their day-to-day jobs," said Janet Schijns, VP of mid-market solutions and alternate channels for Verizon Enterprise Solutions.

"Customers in our pilot for this solution appreciated its self-serve, which enabled their employees to be more productive. They also benefitted from the cost savings associated with unlimited local and long-distance calling, zero maintenance fees, and no need for costly back-office phone systems."

The solution, which is immediately available to US customers, offers advanced communication features include simultaneous ringing for phones, visual voice messaging and call forwarding.

It can be used with Google Apps for business and is claimed to be ideal for SMEs with one or multiple locations.
