Deutsche Telekom partners with Spotify

German telco Deutsche Telekom has partnered with digital music company Spotify to offer the music services as part of its bundled mobile package in Germany.

According to Deutsche Telekom, the service is the first tariff offering a bundled Spotify premium service within other traditional services, and it will be available by October.

Analysts believe the unique offering could now mean other over-the-top applications will be bundled within tariffs, such as Skype for example. The move could be seen as part of an increasing commitment between telcos and OTT players to integrate services within networks and tariffs.

The Spotify service can also be offered as an add on for existing Deutsche Telekom’s fixed-line and mobile customers, and any online usage of the service will not count towards customer monthly data allowance. The agreement between the two companies has an initial life span of one year.

Deutsche Telekom struck a similar partnership with music rival company Deezer, which launched in Austria and the Netherlands.
