Vodafone announces CWW integration appointments

Vodafone Group has announced five appointments to lead the integration of Cable&Wireless Worldwide (CWW) once its £1.04 billion acquisition of the company is completed, with several CWW executives to depart, including CEO Gavin Darby.

Nick Jeffery has been appointed as CEO of CWW, with immediate effect, and will join the leadership team of both Vodafone UK and Vodafone Group Northern & Central Europe region.

The move will mark a return to familiar ground for Jeffery, who began his career with Cable&Wireless (Mercury Communications) in 1991 and led the company’s international markets and business units before joining Vodafone in 2004. He became CEO of Vodafone Global Enterprise in 2006.

Jeffery’s former position as CEO of Vodafone Global Enterprise will immediately be filled by Jan Geldmacher, who was previously business unit director of Vodafone Germany. Geldmacher is former CEO of BT Germany and joined Vodafone Germany in 2008. He has been accredited with growing enterprise to account for one third of revenues in the country.

Vodafone’s integration of CWW’s commercial and back-office operations will be lead by Jeffery and Guy Laurence, CEO of Vodafone UK. Meanwhile Vodafone Group CTO, Steve Pusey, will oversee the integration of CWW’s network and technology assets.

CWW’s CEO, Gavin Darby, will leave the company at the end of October, along with CFO Ian Gibson, acting CTO Dave Broady and acting HR director Jane Little.

Diego Galli, the CFO of Vodafone Turkey, has been appointed finance director for CWW, and John Thompson, director of Vodafone Group’s network services unit, has been appointed as technology director.

The role of CWW HR director will be filled by Vodafone Netherlands HR director, Francesco Bianco, and Vodafone Global Enterprise commercial team leader, Mark Allison, has been appointed integration director. All appointments are effective immediately.

"Nick is an excellent leader with a deep understanding of enterprise customers' needs, a track record in value creation and familiarity with CWW's business. Similarly, with his strong background in multinational client leadership, Jan will be well-placed to succeed Nick as CEO of Vodafone Global Enterprise. I would also like to welcome Diego, John, Francesco and Mark to their new roles as we begin to integrate CWW into Vodafone, and express my thanks and best wishes for the future to Gavin, Ian, Dave and Jane," said Vittorio Colao, Vodafone Group CEO.
