Research In Motion (RIM), the company behind the Blackberry brand, has appointed Thorsten Heins as president and CEO. He succeeds co-CEOs Mark Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie following the submission of a succession plan by the two, and a unanimous vote by the board. Heins was previously COO of product engineering at the company. Before joining RIM in 2007 he held several positions in the mobile sector including CTO of Siemens’ communication division and general management roles in hardware and software businesses.

Heins also serves as a member of the board for the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
