The move is part of the Turkish mobile operator’s goal to improve its cloud computing capabilities and data centre services.
The company plans to integrate Global Iletisim’s three data centres in Anakara and Istanbul with its subsidiary Turkcell Superonline, which has also invested in a 2,000m2 data centre in Gebze that is due to open next year.
Turkcell’s chief corporate business office Selen Kocabas believes the move is crucial to supporting Turkey as it advances as an “information society”.
“With Global İletisim, we are acquiring 3 data centres that we believe will solidify our prior investment in a 2,000 square metre data centre in Gebze. In addition the investment will also provide our customers with the advantages of cloud computing, such as cost, flexibility, and speed,” she said.
“With the participation of Global İletisim’s clientele, we will now serve all our corporate customers under the Turkcell Superonline brand with a strengthened infrastructure.”
Superonline provides fibre-optic and internet services, and has recently spoken to Capacity regarding its involvement in the Regional Cable Network (RCN) project for a feature examining the growth of terrestrial networks worldwide.
