BT and Everything Everywhere partner for 4G trials

BT Wholesale and Everything Everywhere are collaborating on live 4G LTE trials in the UK.

As part of the agreement, the two companies will share fixed and mobile technology to test the technology in rural Cornwall in the south west of England. The field trial will start this September and run until early 2012.

The field trial will use the 800MHz band in a bid to find a viable alternative to fixed-line broadband in areas where copper can’t provide sufficient bandwidth and where fibre is uneconomic to lay. This solution is to be applied particularly in rural areas where connectivity problems are most acute.

Tom Alexander, CEO, Everything Everywhere, said: “We strongly believe that, by sharing our network and mobile assets in this way, we can make a valuable contribution to the economics of rural broadband services.”
